Diagram Iterations

Ok, I addressed the arrows first. I decided to make them 30% gray and set them behind the green circles. (before they were floating outside). I also made the circles bigger. I changed the orientation from portrait to landscape, and tried a few different things with the lines that connect some of the topics. I also made a few minor adjustments such as scaling the images down to match the icons and played around with the title.

Here is the one I like the best

I went back to the dotted lines on this one, although there are still a few issues to be resolved if I chose this direction with the lines.

Here I played around with the positioning of the title (still thinking of a way to involve winning & losing...)

Here is a detail of the lines connecting the information

Diagram Iterations

Here are a few of the iterations I did for the Chain Reaction diagram.

This was the first. This is really a lot like my final Paper Prototype.

For this one, I tried to make it like a poker table and the groups were all players in the game.

For this one I tried to take a linear approach starting with Technical because everything begins with playing poker.

For this one I was thinking of a trickle down effect and put economy and health at the bottom.

Paper Prototype Process (Poppin' Them P's)

Here is the process for the paper prototype. I just tried to work as quick as possible and once I had gotten to a point where I was beginning to slow my pace I would stop, take a few steps back, and take a look at what maybe didn't belong or what I had left out. I also looked for more ways that things overlapped or connected.

I started by doing a mind map on paper first, trying to find things that related to my icons.

This was my 1st round on a larger scale.

2nd round.

3rd round.

And the 4th round.

Poker Book
Many people go from non-gamblers to addicted gamblers. People have trashed their life savings and family relations because of gambling. People go through divorce, theft, drug addiction, alcoholism, and suicide all related to (at least in part) to gambling. Money is critical to the game of poker. Betting it, winning it, and losing it are all fundamental parts of the game. When you mix money and humankind you get greed. From greed you occasionaly get some very unpleasant results. For both ametueur and Pro, the dangers associated with gambling are ever present. Understand that if you do not respect the pitfalls, you can fall into the pit. Poker is fun, but too much of a good thing can kill you.

The 12 Steps (Willpowers not enough)

1. We admited we were powerless over alcohol-that our lives had become unmanageable.

2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood him.

4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.

9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principals in all our affairs.

Delicious Bite-Size

Hosting a party is all about gathering together friends and family and having a good time. Bite-size food is the perfect accompaniment to any party-- irresistible mouthfuls of flavor that look both tempting and elegant when served to your guests on beautifully presented platters.

These impressive bite-size foods should not be laborious or time-consuming to prepare.

Include chips, dips, crackers, pretzels, nuts, cheese, and fruit.

I also have some images to use for the mind map.

Poker Night

Here are my final 6 icons.

My series of icons started off with a loose feel, they almost looked like they were flying through the air

But after trying to apply this style to the rest of my object, the rules began to change from a loose and free shape to more geometric design...

After a few more revisions, my icons began to relate more to a casino something of the sort instead of the poker night at the house which was the original intent. The introduction of the pretzel helped bring that friendly poker night at the house feeling back. But the drink still had an elegant, fancy feel so I switched it up...

This drink looks a lot more like a home made Crown & Coke, as opposed to a bartender shaking up a martini and adding an olive.

Throughout the process I really discovered how to simplify objects, but still leave enough information to convey the message of what it is. Also, to pay attention more to detail as one thing can change the whole mood or message of what you are trying to communicate.
